All About ciaoMath!

A Different Approach to Learning

TM

ciaoMath! is not the typical educational service. The distinction is in the way we introduce students to math concepts and inspire continuous improvement.

Typically, a student goes to tutoring because they need assistance with math. Perhaps they want better grades, or they need to pass a critical exam like Advanced Placements (AP) or SATs/ACTs. Unfortunately, this single-minded goal of simply passing an exam or getting better grades robs the student of the broader understanding of the application and use of math.

While passing an exam or getting better grades are good, pragmatic reasons for tutoring, the student may not get the deeper understanding of math and its applications to other subjects such as computer science, physics, engineering or architecture.

From our perspective, the reason why students have trouble learning math is that they never learn its importants and its functionality beyond math class. If a student does not know why they’re learning something, why will they put effort into learning it?

At ciaoMath! we take the student on a journey into a broader world of possibilities. On this journey the student learns the language of math. The student will see how math defines multi-dimensional objects, underpins modern artificial intelligence, and even the beauty of cryptographic math that encrypts messages and information as it travels across the internet. At cioaMath we guide the student thought a realm of beauty where thoughts can manifest themselves into reality simply by using mathematical constructs. Join us on this magical journey.

About the ciaoMath! logo.

The ciaoMath! logo design is centered on the number π with elements of complex numbers, sinusoidal functions, fourier transforms and geometry. The number π is very important in modern math. Without it, we cannot perform complex engineering, launch rockets into space, land rovers on Mars, create pseudo-random numbers for encryption, nor can we describe gravity, perform quantum mechanics or solve thermodynamic problems. In fact, the machine learning models that power many of the artificial intelligence applications currently being used across the globe use π in multiple ways.

π is so important that even ancient Indian mathematicians found it necessary to wax poetic about π! The value of π up to 31 digits is hidden in the Sanskrit verse below:

गोपीभाग्यमधुव्रात-श्रुंगिशोदधिसंधिगः।
खलजीवितखाताव गलहालारसंधरः॥

Transliteration:

gopībhāgyamadhuvrāta-śruṅgiśodadhisaṃdhigaḥ
khalajīvitakhātāva galahālārasaṃdharaḥ

This gives π = 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197.

This verse is based on an ancient system used by Indian Mathematicians since the 5th century CE. This system is known as the Katapayadi system, and it assigns letters to numbers. This process is further expanded upon to use the letters to create poetic couplets that helps a person remember complex mathematical formulas and numbers. But how did they know about π to that many places? Well, Madhava of Sangamagrama (c. 1350–1425 CE) used infinite series expansions!

At ciaoMath! we thought it fitting to use such a powerful number as π to be the center of our mathematical world.
